Optimize recovery from complex natural gas reservoirs and simulate CO2 underground plume migration for carbon capture and storage (CCS) at Santos.

Santos is seeking an experienced Gas Reservoir Simulation Engineer to join our Upstream Subsurface team at 32 Turbot Street, Brisbane. You will construct dynamic numerical reservoir models (Eclipse, Petrel RE), execute rigorous history matching, evaluate infill drilling opportunities, and simulate underground CO2 containment for our flagship Moomba Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project.

As a key member of the team at Santos in Brisbane, QLD, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Build, calibrate,: Build, calibrate, and maintain full-field dynamic reservoir simulation models for sandstone and unconventional gas fields.
• Perform history: Perform history matching using production data, pressure transient analysis (PTA), and rate transient analysis (RTA).
• Generate probabilistic: Generate probabilistic production forecasts (P10/P50/P90) and deliver reserves estimations aligned with PRMS standards.
• Model CO2: Model CO2 subsurface injection dynamics, reservoir sweep efficiency, and long-term trapping mechanisms for CCS projects.
• Collaborate closely: Collaborate closely with production geologists, geophysicists, and drilling teams to optimize well placement.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Santos, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Applied Mathematics.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 5+ years of reservoir engineering experience in the oil and gas or subsurface energy sector.
• Mastery of reservoir simulation tools such as SLB Eclipse, Petrel RE, or CMG software suites.
• Degree in Petroleum Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
• Strong understanding of fluid thermodynamics (PVT), rock physics, and multiphase flow mechanisms.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$160,000 – AU$195,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
