Lead power system grid connection negotiations and PSCAD stability modeling for utility-scale battery and wind assets.

Origin Energy’s renewable development division is seeking a Lead Grid Connections Engineer in Sydney. You will lead the technical grid connection process for multi-gigawatt utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) and wind farms, managing compliance with AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator) National Electricity Rules Clause 5.3.4A.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Direct power: Direct power system dynamic studies using PSCAD/EMTDC and PSS/E to model grid interaction.
• Negotiate Generator: Negotiate Generator Performance Standards (GPS) with AEMO and Network Service Providers (Transgrid, Powerlink).
• Oversee electromagnetic: Oversee electromagnetic transient modeling for inverter-based resources (IBR) in weak grid environments.
• Coordinate factory: Coordinate factory acceptance tests (FAT) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing for OEM inverters.
• Support on-site: Support on-site R2 testing and compliance validation during commissioning.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Origin Energy, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor of Electrical Engineering & CPEng / NER Registration.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Power Systems).
• 7+ years experience in power system studies and NEM grid connection processes in Australia.
• Demonstrated mastery of PSCAD/EMTDC, PSS/E, and Python automation scripts.
• In-depth knowledge of Chapter 5 of the National Electricity Rules.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$165,000 – AU$210,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
