Model and secure AEMO Generator Performance Standards (GPS) grid connections for multi-hundred megawatt wind, solar, and battery projects at Origin Energy.

Origin Energy’s Renewable Development team is looking for an experienced Grid Connection & Power Systems Engineer in Brisbane. You will lead dynamic power systems studies, perform electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations in PSCAD, and steer grid connection negotiations with transmission network service providers (Powerlink, Transgrid) and AEMO under National Electricity Rules (NER) Chapter 5.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Perform EMT: Perform EMT and RMS dynamic power system simulations using PSCAD/EMTDC and PSS/E.
• Develop, negotiate,: Develop, negotiate, and certify Generator Performance Standards (GPS) compliance documentation with AEMO and TNSPs.
• Model inverter-based: Model inverter-based resources (IBR), harmonic impedance, system strength, and weak grid stability.
• Review EPC: Review EPC electrical engineering packages, collector network designs, and high-voltage substation layouts.
• Participate in: Participate in R2 on-site testing and model validation during plant commissioning.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Origin Energy, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems + AEMO compliance modeling experience.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 5+ years of power systems engineering experience, with a focus on National Electricity Market (NEM) grid connections.
• Proficiency in PSCAD/EMTDC, PSS/E, and Python automation scripting.
• Deep understanding of National Electricity Rules (NER) clause 5.3.4A and AEMO connection application processes.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering with eligibility for Chartered Engineer (CPEng) status.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$150,000 – AU$180,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
