Fulton Hogan is seeking an experienced Surfacing & Asphalt Operations Manager to lead our Melbourne asphalt operations. You will manage fixed asphalt batching plants, oversee multiple daytime and night-shift paving crews on major arterials and freeway resurfacing contracts, optimize equipment fleet productivity, and ensure total compliance with Department of Transport (VicRoads) specifications.

As a key member of the team at Fulton Hogan in Melbourne, VIC, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Direct operational: Direct operational execution of asphalt manufacturing plants and mobile asphalt laying crews.
• Manage resource: Manage resource allocation including pavers, rollers, profilers, and asphalt cartage logistics fleets.
• Ensure asphalt: Ensure asphalt mixes adhere to VicRoads Section 407/408 standards, mix designs, and compaction densities.
• Lead safety: Lead safety cultures across high-hazard night-shift road work zones and traffic management environments.
• Manage operational: Manage operational P&L, material yield reconciliations, and subcontractor performance.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Fulton Hogan, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or substantial asphalt paving operations management experience.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 6+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 6+ years of operational management experience in asphalt manufacturing, road surfacing, or civil road maintenance.
• Deep technical understanding of bitumen binders, recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), and pavement compaction physics.
• Proven leadership capability managing diverse field workforce and subcontractors.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent extensive industry operational experience.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$150,000 – AU$180,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
