Develop distribution network capacity models, solar hosting capacity studies, and autonomous standalone power systems (SPS).

Western Power is looking for a Senior Power Systems Planning Engineer to join our network planning division in Perth. You will spearhead network capacity forecasts, evaluate the integration of distributed solar and home batteries, and design rural microgrids to transform Western Australia’s South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

As a key member of the team at Western Power in Perth, WA, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Perform steady-state: Perform steady-state load flow, contingency (N-1), and fault level studies using DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Evaluate distributed: Evaluate distributed energy resources (DER) hosting capacity and dynamic export limitations.
• Identify network: Identify network constraints and develop cost-effective capital investment augmentation plans.
• Design standalone: Design standalone power systems (SPS) and regional microgrids replacing vulnerable rural overhead lines.
• Prepare regulatory: Prepare regulatory submission documentation for the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA).

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Western Power, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor of Electrical Engineering & CPEng Registration.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Power Systems).
• 5+ years power system analysis experience with a network service provider or consulting firm.
• Proficiency in DIgSILENT PowerFactory, Sincal, or PSS/E with Python automation scripting.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligible.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$140,000 – AU$172,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Remuneration $140,000 – $172,000 + 11.5% super.
