Canva is hiring a Staff Frontend Engineer in Surry Hills to drive 60fps rendering, WebGL performance, and next-gen visual editing features.

Canva is seeking a visionary Staff Frontend Software Engineer to lead frontend performance and core rendering technologies for our flagship visual editor.

As a key member of the team at Canva in Sydney, NSW, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Lead architectural: Lead architectural decisions and technical roadmaps for Canva’s browser rendering pipeline.
• Optimize frontend: Optimize frontend memory consumption, frame rendering budgets, and DOM virtualization.
• Build robust,: Build robust, type-safe frontend UI component libraries using TypeScript and React.
• Conduct deep: Conduct deep browser profiling, analyzing paint cycles and WebAssembly compilation bottlenecks.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Canva, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor of Computer Science or Equivalent Experience.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 7+ years developing complex web applications with modern JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Deep expertise in browser rendering engines, HTML5 Canvas, WebGL, or WebAssembly.
• Proven leadership skills driving large-scale architectural migrations across cross-functional engineering pods.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$190,000 – AU$240,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
