Provide specialized clinical consultative advisory, complex opioid analgesic titration, and palliative support across acute hospital wards.

Hunter New England Local Health District (NSW Health) is looking for an experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 (CNC) in Palliative Care based at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. You will deliver expert bedside clinical consultations, manage severe cancer and non-cancer pain, and guide advance care planning.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Conduct specialized: Conduct specialized clinical assessments for patients with life-limiting illnesses across oncology, respiratory, and neurology.
• Formulate complex: Formulate complex pharmacological symptom control plans including continuous subcutaneous syringe drivers (CADD/Niki).
• Facilitate sensitive: Facilitate sensitive advance care planning, goals-of-care discussions, and family multidisciplinary conferences.
• Provide expert: Provide expert educational programs and clinical inservices for medical and nursing ward teams.
• Drive translational: Drive translational clinical nursing research, authoring clinical palliative guidelines.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at NSW Health, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Master of Nursing / Palliative Care & Unrestricted AHPRA Nursing Registration.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• Master’s Degree in Palliative Care, Oncology, or Advanced Clinical Nursing.
• Current unconditional registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
• Minimum 5 years advanced clinical experience in palliative or oncology nursing.
• High-level clinical leadership and empathetic communication acumen.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$122,000 – AU$138,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Public sector Award salary $122,000 – $138,000 + 11.5% super + salary packaging up to $9,010 + meals/entertainment.
