Canva’s Sydney R&D team is looking for a Frontend Engineer specializing in high-performance web graphics. You will work on our proprietary rendering engine, optimizing mathematical transforms, vector rendering, and real-time photo/video filters to deliver butter-smooth 60fps creative workflows on any browser.

As a key member of the team at Canva in Sydney, NSW, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Develop cutting-edge: Develop cutting-edge canvas rendering pipelines using WebGL, WebGPU, and HTML5 Canvas APIs.
• Optimize memory: Optimize memory consumption and frame rates for complex multi-layered graphic documents.
• Implement high-precision: Implement high-precision geometry, typography layout algorithms, and vector path transformations.
• Collaborate with: Collaborate with UI designers and product engineers to integrate graphics features into the core editor.
• Write comprehensive: Write comprehensive automated benchmarks and rendering regression test suites.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Canva, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Game Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 4+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 4+ years of advanced web development experience with deep TypeScript mastery.
• Hands-on experience with WebGL, Canvas 2D, Three.js, or game engine development.
• Solid mathematical foundation (linear algebra, matrices, coordinate transformations).
• Relentless focus on client-side computational performance and memory profiling.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$145,000 – AU$175,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Competitive salary ($145,000 – $175,000) plus lucrative equity options.
