Optimize multi-million-tonne iron ore extraction, long-term pit sequencing, and autonomous truck fleets for BHP Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO).

BHP is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to join our Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) planning team based in Perth with occasional site visits to our Pilbara mine operations. You will develop medium to long-range mine designs, optimize pit shells using Whittle and Deswik, and integrate Caterpillar Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) to maximize ore recovery safely and cost-effectively.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Develop medium-: Develop medium- and long-term open pit mine production schedules utilizing Deswik and Vulcan software.
• Optimize pit: Optimize pit designs, dump staging, and haulage road networks for ultra-class autonomous haul trucks.
• Conduct drill: Conduct drill and blast pattern optimization to enhance fragmentation and reduce downstream crusher energy consumption.
• Liaise with: Liaise with geotechnical engineers, environmental teams, and mine operations managers to resolve site constraints.
• Deliver reconciliation: Deliver reconciliation reports comparing actual mined volumes against resource block models and monthly forecasts.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at BHP, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor of Mining Engineering + First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate desirable.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 5+ years of open pit mining engineering experience, preferably within large-scale hard rock or iron ore operations.
• Proficiency in industry standard mining software (Deswik, Vulcan, Whittle).
• Experience integrating Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) or Fleet Management Systems (Modular/Wenco).
• Bachelor of Mining Engineering and current Western Australian Manual Driver’s License.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$170,000 – AU$205,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
