BHP is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer for Mount Whaleback open-cut iron ore operations in the Pilbara on an 8:6 FIFO roster.

BHP Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to lead medium and short-term open-pit planning at Mount Whaleback.

As a key member of the team at BHP in Newman, WA, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Develop medium-term: Develop medium-term mine production schedules and pit phase designs using Deswik and Vulcan.
• Optimize drill: Optimize drill and blast patterns to maximize fragmentation and excavator productivity.
• Collaborate with: Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to monitor pit wall stability and risk mitigations.
• Reconcile actual: Reconcile actual mine production against reserves and budget targets.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at BHP, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor of Mining Engineering.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years open-pit mining engineering experience in iron ore or gold.
• Proficiency in Deswik or Vulcan mine scheduling software.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$160,000 – AU$200,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Competitive salary $160,000 – $200,000 + annual bonus + superannuation.
• Family-friendly 8 days on / 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth.
