Downer Group is hiring a Heavy Mobile Plant Mechanic in Mackay to service Caterpillar excavators, graders, and civil road equipment across Central QLD.

Downer Group is seeking a Trade-Qualified Heavy Mobile Plant Mechanic in Mackay to perform maintenance and diagnostic troubleshooting on civil machinery fleets.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Conduct routine: Conduct routine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical servicing on Caterpillar and Komatsu equipment.
• Diagnose complex: Diagnose complex engine electronic management and hydraulic circuit faults.
• Perform component: Perform component change-outs including final drives, hydraulic pumps, and engines.
• Complete comprehensive: Complete comprehensive field service reports and hazard assessments.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Downer Group, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 3-5 Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• Australian Trade Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology or Heavy Diesel Mechanical.
• Demonstrated post-trade experience working on Caterpillar or Komatsu heavy earthmoving equipment.
• Current Australian driver’s licence and White Card.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$115,000 – AU$140,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Base salary of $115,000 – $140,000 + field allowances + superannuation.
• Fully equipped modern field service vehicle and fuel card.
• Predictable Monday to Friday roster with optional overtime.
• Leave Entitlements: 4 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% annual leave loading where applicable) plus 10 days paid personal/carer’s leave.
