Lead Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and secure federal and state statutory planning approvals for major infrastructure projects at WSP.

WSP Australia is looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Planning & Statutory Approvals Consultant to join our Planning & Approvals practice in Southbank, Melbourne. You will guide clients through the environmental assessment process for major rail, road, renewable energy, and transmission infrastructure, managing Environment Effects Statements (EES) and Commonwealth EPBC Act approvals.

As a key member of the team at WSP Australia in Melbourne, VIC, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Manage preparation: Manage preparation of comprehensive Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), EES, and planning permit applications.
• Coordinate technical: Coordinate technical specialist studies including ecology, noise and vibration, air quality, cultural heritage, and contamination.
• Liaise with: Liaise with state and federal planning authorities (DTP, DEECA, DCCEEW) to negotiate approval conditions.
• Design and: Design and facilitate public exhibition processes, community drop-in sessions, and stakeholder submissions reviews.
• Ensure environmental: Ensure environmental management plans (CEMP/OEMP) integrate all statutory consent conditions seamlessly.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at WSP Australia, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Science or Law.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 5+ years of experience in statutory environmental planning and impact assessment in Victoria or Australia.
• Thorough knowledge of the Victorian Planning and Environment Act 1987, Environment Effects Act 1978, and Commonwealth EPBC Act.
• Degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Superb analytical, technical writing, and inter-agency relationship management skills.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$130,000 – AU$155,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Remuneration $130,000 – $155,000 + performance incentives + superannuation.
