Lead investigations into flight safety occurrences, analyze black-box telemetry, and champion Safety Management Systems (SMS) across Qantas Group airlines.

Qantas Airways is seeking an experienced Senior Flight Safety & Quality Assurance Investigator to join our Group Safety team at Mascot, Sydney. You will investigate operational flight safety incidents, analyze Flight Data Monitoring (FDM/FOQA) telemetry parameters, identify systemic human factors risks, and ensure adherence to IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) and CASA standards.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Conduct thorough: Conduct thorough technical investigations into flight operations safety reports and near-miss airspace events.
• Analyze optical: Analyze optical and digital Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Quick Access Recorder (QAR) flight profiles.
• Formulate actionable: Formulate actionable safety recommendations for Chief Pilots, Fleet Managers, and Training Captains.
• Conduct quality: Conduct quality assurance audits across airline flight operations, simulator training centres, and wet-lease operators.
• Liaise with: Liaise with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) and CASA on formal inquiry responses.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Qantas Airways, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Aeronautical Engineering or Pilot/LAME background + Aviation Safety Auditor qualification.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 6+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 6+ years of flight safety investigation or quality assurance experience with a scheduled commercial airline.
• Background as a commercial pilot, flight engineer, or aeronautical engineer.
• Deep expertise in Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) software and Aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS).
• Strong analytical rigor, investigative independence, and report writing capabilities.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$150,000 – AU$180,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
