Laing O’Rourke is hiring a Modular Precast Concrete Systems Design Engineer to join our DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) engineering group in North Sydney. You will design innovative precast concrete architectural elements, bridge beams, tunnel shafts, and modular building pods manufactured in offsite precision factories and assembled rapidly on construction sites.

As a key member of the team at Laing O’Rourke in Sydney, NSW, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Perform structural: Perform structural design of reinforced and prestressed precast concrete components under AS 3600 and AS 3850.
• Design connection: Design connection details, cast-in lifting anchors, and dynamic rigging configurations for erection stability.
• Model detailed: Model detailed precast elements, rebar reinforcement cages, and embedment plates utilizing Tekla Structures.
• Collaborate with: Collaborate with offsite manufacturing factory engineers to optimize formwork reuse and concrete curing times.
• Perform site: Perform site inspections to verify precast component installation, grouting, and structural tolerances.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Laing O’Rourke, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Engineers Australia accredited).
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 4+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 4+ years of structural design experience specializing in precast concrete, prestressed elements, or modular systems.
• In-depth knowledge of Australian Standards for concrete (AS 3600) and prefabricated concrete elements (AS 3850).
• Proficiency in structural modeling tools (Tekla Structures, Space Gass, or RAPT).
• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$130,000 – AU$155,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Package $130,000 – $155,000 + performance bonus + superannuation.
• North Sydney office with regular visits to state-of-the-art offsite precast manufacturing facilities.
