Lead the delivery of gigawatt-scale solar, wind, and transmission projects replacing gas generation across Rio Tinto’s Pilbara iron ore network.

Rio Tinto’s Energy & Decarbonization group is hiring an experienced Decarbonization & Clean Power Project Manager in Perth. You will lead the development and construction of utility-scale renewable power plants, high-voltage transmission lines, and microgrid controls required to repower our 17 iron ore mines and 4 port terminals with 100% clean electricity.

As a key member of the team at Rio Tinto in Perth, WA, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Manage end-to-end: Manage end-to-end development of multi-hundred-megawatt solar PV, wind, and battery storage projects in the Pilbara.
• Lead procurement: Lead procurement of major equipment packages (turbines, solar modules, inverters) and EPC contract negotiations.
• Oversee project: Oversee project budget schedules, stage-gate feasibility reviews, and engineering approvals.
• Engage with: Engage with Traditional Owner groups to secure Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) and heritage clearances.
• Report project: Report project milestones and Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas abatement trajectories to senior executives.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Rio Tinto, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Renewable Engineering + Project Management Certification (PMP).
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 7+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 7+ years of capital project management experience in utility-scale renewable energy, power generation, or major mining infrastructure.
• Demonstrated experience taking large-scale wind or solar projects through feasibility, contracting, and construction.
• Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Renewable) and certified Project Management credential.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement, commercial negotiation, and leadership skills.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$175,000 – AU$215,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
