Ensure bulletproof reliability, low-latency telemetry, and continuous uptime for autonomous drill rigs and remote train operations from BHP IROC in Perth.

BHP is seeking a Mine Automation & Tele-Remote Reliability Engineer to join our Integrated Remote Operations Centre (IROC) in Perth. You will be the technical authority ensuring flawless performance of autonomous blast hole drills, automated stacker-reclaimers, and remote train loading systems operating 1,500km away in the Pilbara iron ore basin.

As a key member of the team at BHP in Perth, WA, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Analyze tele-remote: Analyze tele-remote telemetry data to diagnose software, hardware, and radio network drops on autonomous fleets.
• Optimize automated: Optimize automated drilling algorithms to improve hole accuracy, penetration rates, and bit longevity.
• Collaborate with: Collaborate with communications engineers to maintain high-availability private 4G/5G LTE mine mesh networks.
• Execute reliability-centered: Execute reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) reviews and root-cause failure analyses (RCFA) for automation assets.
• Partner with: Partner with on-site maintenance crews in Newman and Port Hedland to coordinate firmware upgrades and sensor calibrations.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at BHP, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Systems, or Mining Engineering.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 4+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 4+ years of systems engineering, automation, or mechatronics experience in heavy industrial or mining environments.
• Familiarity with industrial fieldbus protocols (CAN bus, Modbus, Profinet) and wireless telemetry systems.
• Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Software/Systems Engineering.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills under high-consequence operational pressure.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$150,000 – AU$180,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Remuneration $150,000 – $180,000 + BHP annual bonus scheme.
• Based full-time in Perth CBD at Brookfield Place with no mandatory FIFO requirement.
