Design custom thermoplastic splints, sensory re-education, and post-operative tendon rehabilitation for traumatic hand trauma.

Westmead Private Hospital (Ramsay Health Care) has an opening for an experienced Senior Hand Therapist (Occupational Therapist). Working closely with leading orthopaedic and plastic hand surgeons, you will evaluate traumatic tendon lacerations, fractures, peripheral nerve injuries, and fabricate custom thermoplastic orthoses.

As a key member of the team at Ramsay Health Care in Sydney, NSW, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Fabricate custom: Fabricate custom static, dynamic, and static-progressive thermoplastic splints and orthoses.
• Design post-operative: Design post-operative rehabilitation protocols for flexor and extensor tendon repairs conforming to early active motion protocols.
• Provide post-surgical: Provide post-surgical wound care, suture removal, edema control, and silicone scar management.
• Conduct upper: Conduct upper extremity sensory testing (Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments) and grip dynamometry.
• Guide patients: Guide patients through graduated return-to-work and manual dexterity functional retraining.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Ramsay Health Care, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor or Master of Occupational Therapy & AHPRA Registration & AHTA Accredited Hand Therapist.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) or Master of Occupational Therapy.
• Current unconditional registration with AHPRA.
• Accredited Hand Therapist (AHT) with the Australian Hand Therapy Association (AHTA) or eligible.
• Minimum 4 years clinical hand therapy experience.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$95,000 – AU$120,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Remuneration $95,000 – $120,000 + 11.5% super + annual CPD conference allowance.
• Modern dedicated hand therapy laboratory with computerized grip evaluation and splinting stations.
• Direct clinical exposure alongside Australia’s foremost plastic and microvascular hand surgeons.
• Leave Entitlements: 4 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% annual leave loading where applicable) plus 10 days paid personal/carer’s leave.
