Job Overview & Context

Mater Mothers’ Hospital is seeking applications from passionate and committed Neonatal Registered Nurses to join our casual pool. This is a great opportunity for experienced, flexible nurses to join a supportive team on a casual basis. Consistent availability is preferred, with shifts offered 24/7 across public and private services. Mater Mothers’ Hospital is a leader in the provision of high-quality maternity and newborn services for the people of Queensland, offering integrated services covering obstetrics, gynaecology, neonatology, and maternal fetal medicine.

The Neonatal Critical Care Unit is a 79-bed highly specialised and complex service which provides care for approximately 2,000 babies per year. It comprises 47 intensive care beds (separated into Preterm/Medical and Cardiac/Surgical units), 32 Special Care beds, a Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist service aimed at admission avoidance, and an early discharge program, HOPE (Home for our Patients Earlier).

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Providing comprehensive nursing care to neonates with complex and critical care needs.
  • Advocating for infants and families, ensuring care is delivered with sensitivity to physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to plan, deliver and evaluate patient care.
  • Maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and infection prevention practices.
  • Participating in quality improvement activities, research initiatives, and ongoing service development.
  • Supporting and mentoring students and less experienced staff, contributing to a positive learning environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current AHPRA registration (without restriction).
  • Minimum 12 months post-graduate nursing and/or nursing/midwifery experience across Special Care Nursery, Pre-Term Medical or Cardiac Surgery.
  • Recent hospital-based experience.
  • Flexibility to perform in various wards, adaptability to seamlessly integrate into diverse teams and work under different Nurse Unit Managers (NUMs).
  • Regular availability to complete shifts at short notice.

  • Commitment to excellence in nursing practice and professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.

Location & Shift Details
