SEEK is seeking a Senior Search Relevance & NLP Engineer in Cremorne to optimize semantic search algorithms connecting millions of job seekers.

SEEK’s Search & Matching AI team in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Senior Search Relevance & NLP Engineer. You will leverage information retrieval algorithms, semantic search embeddings, and learning-to-rank models to match candidates with their dream jobs.

As a key member of the team at SEEK Australia in Melbourne, VIC, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Develop and: Develop and calibrate Learning-to-Rank (LTR) algorithms and semantic vector search in Elasticsearch.
• Apply modern: Apply modern transformer models (BERT, RoBERTa) for job query understanding and skill entity extraction.
• Design offline: Design offline and online evaluation metrics (NDCG, MRR) and execute continuous A/B search tests.
• Collaborate with: Collaborate with backend engineers to deploy low-latency model inference pipelines on AWS.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at SEEK Australia, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Master or PhD in Computer Science, Information Retrieval, or NLP.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 5+ years experience in Information Retrieval, Search Ranking, or Natural Language Processing.
• Strong programming proficiency in Python and Java or Scala.
• Proven experience tuning Lucene, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr at enterprise scale.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$165,000 – AU$205,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Top-tier salary $165,000 – $205,000 + annual short-term incentive + super.
