John Holland’s Rail Systems Infrastructure division is hiring an experienced Senior Rail Systems Engineer in Melbourne. You will lead technical integration for brownfield rail upgrades and new metro lines, managing interfaces between CBI computer-based interlocking systems, axle counters, overhead traction power (OHW), and network control centers.

As a key member of the team at John Holland in Melbourne, VIC, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Lead rail: Lead rail systems engineering integration adhering to CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129).
• Review and: Review and approve signaling functional specifications, circuit wiring books, and track layout plans.
• Manage physical: Manage physical and electrical interfaces between traction substations, overhead wiring, and track infrastructure.
• Plan and: Plan and execute critical rail network occupation staging, cut-overs, and dynamic train testing regimes.
• Interface with: Interface with network operators (Metro Trains Melbourne, V/Line) to achieve Type Approval and safety accreditation.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at John Holland, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Rail Systems Engineering.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 6+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 6+ years of rail engineering experience in signaling design, overhead traction power, or rail systems integration.
• Familiarity with Australian rail network operator standards (MTM, ARTC, or TfNSW).
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Rail Systems.
• Strong understanding of rail safety assurance, hazard logs, and safety case arguments.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$160,000 – AU$190,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Competitive salary ($160,000 – $190,000) + rail project allowances + superannuation.
