Commonwealth Bank of Australia is seeking a Senior Financial Crime & AML Investigator to join our Financial Crime Operations team at Commonwealth Bank Place, Sydney. You will lead complex forensic investigations into anomalous transaction flows, draft Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) for AUSTRAC, and partner with federal law enforcement agencies to combat transnational organized crime.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

  • Conduct in-depth: Conduct in-depth end-to-end investigations into complex money laundering, sanctions evasion, and illicit financial networks.
  • Prepare high-quality: Prepare high-quality Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) and regulatory disclosures for AUSTRAC.
  • Analyze transaction: Analyze transaction monitoring alerts generated by advanced analytics and machine learning surveillance engines.
  • Liaise with: Liaise with Australian Federal Police (AFP), ACIC, and international law enforcement bodies regarding ongoing inquiries.
  • Provide subject: Provide subject matter guidance to frontline business bankers on Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (ECDD).

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

  • Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Finance, Law or ACAMS certification (CAMS).
  • Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
  • 5+ years of practical experience in AML/CTF investigations within a major Australian financial institution or regulatory body.
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS) or ICA International Diploma preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act).
  • Superb analytical mindset, investigative acumen, and evidence-gathering skills.
