Design resilient tailings storage facilities (TSF), perform dam safety audits, and implement Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) at GHD.

GHD’s Geotechnics & Tailings Engineering team is hiring an experienced Senior Tailings & Dam Safety Engineer in Brisbane. Working with premier mining clients across copper, gold, and metallurgical coal assets, you will lead tailings embankment design, slope stability and seepage modeling, dam safety inspections under ANCOLD guidelines, and GISTM governance audits.

As a key member of the team at GHD Australia in Brisbane, QLD, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Lead detailed: Lead detailed engineering design for upstream, downstream, and centerline tailings embankment raises.
• Perform geotechnical: Perform geotechnical slope stability, seepage, and liquefaction analyses using GeoStudio (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, QUAKE/W).
• Conduct statutory: Conduct statutory Annual Dam Safety Inspections (DSI) and Comprehensive Dam Safety Reviews (CDSR).
• Implement the: Implement the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) frameworks and risk assessments for operators.
• Supervise geotechnical: Supervise geotechnical site investigations, cone penetration testing (CPTu), and tailings laboratory rheology tests.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at GHD Australia, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Water Resources.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 6+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 6+ years of geotechnical engineering experience specializing in tailings storage facilities or large water dams.
• Thorough knowledge of ANCOLD guidelines and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
• Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with eligibility for CPEng / RPEQ.
• Excellent client relationship and technical report delivery capabilities.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$150,000 – AU$180,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
