Develop micro-simulation traffic models and transport planning assessments for major road and motorway upgrades.

SMEC’s transport planning team in Sydney is seeking a talented Senior Traffic & Transport Modeller. You will be responsible for developing sophisticated micro and mesoscopic traffic models using VISSIM and Aimsun to evaluate transport capacity, bus rapid transit corridors, and motorway interchanges across NSW.

As a key member of the team at SMEC in Sydney, NSW, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Build, calibrate,: Build, calibrate, and validate microscopic traffic simulation models in PTV Vissim and Aimsun.
• Conduct junction: Conduct junction capacity and delay analysis using SIDRA Intersection.
• Prepare Traffic: Prepare Traffic Impact Assessments (TIA) for major urban redevelopments and infrastructure corridors.
• Collaborate with: Collaborate with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) stakeholders to verify model calibration metrics (GEH).
• Present model: Present model simulations and visual animations to government clients and public inquiries.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at SMEC, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, or Mathematics.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 3-5 Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Mathematics, or related discipline.
• 4+ years traffic modeling experience within an Australian engineering consultancy.
• Demonstrated expert skills in PTV VISSIM, Visum, and SIDRA.
• Strong report writing and client presentation capabilities.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$130,000 – AU$160,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Competitive salary $130,000 – $160,000 + 11.5% super.
