REA Group is recruiting a Staff Data Engineer in Richmond to architect real-time event streaming pipelines for 12+ million monthly property seekers.

REA Group’s Data & Personalisation team is looking for a Staff Data Engineer to architect our enterprise customer identity graph and real-time behavioral data streaming platform. You will solve massive data scale challenges across Kafka, Spark, and Snowflake.

As a key member of the team at REA Group in Melbourne, VIC, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Architect low-latency: Architect low-latency streaming event pipelines processing billions of user property interactions daily.
• Build robust: Build robust customer graph data models enabling personalized property recommendations in real time.
• Lead data: Lead data platform governance, schema registries, and automated data quality validation with dbt.
• Mentor data: Mentor data engineers and collaborate with machine learning researchers to productionize feature stores.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at REA Group, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor or Master of Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 8+ years experience in large-scale data engineering and distributed data platforms.
• Expertise in Apache Kafka / Flink, Apache Spark, and modern cloud data warehouses (Snowflake).
• Deep proficiency in Python, Scala, or Java.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$170,000 – AU$210,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Package $170,000 – $210,000 + annual bonus + superannuation.
