Video is the fastest-growing medium on Canva, with hundreds of millions of video exports generated every month. The Video Platform team builds the foundational rendering, neural decoding, and real-time generative video infrastructure that powers Canva’s next-generation video creation suite.
Key Responsibilities & Day-to-Day Impact
Design and implement low-latency neural video rendering engines and distributed transcoding pipelines using WebCodecs, WebAssembly, and GPU server farms.
Integrate generative video diffusion models, motion synthesis algorithms, and neural video upscaling into real-time interactive canvas editors.
Optimize video frame pipelines, memory bandwidth, and GPU hardware decoders (NVDEC/NVENC) to support 4K/60fps playback and editing.
Provide senior technical guidance on cross-platform media codecs, browser rendering engines, and distributed cloud rendering systems.
Required Technical Capabilities & Stack
8+ years systems software engineering experience in video processing, graphics rendering, or high-performance multimedia systems.
Mastery of C++, Rust, and modern TypeScript/WebCodecs/WebGL/WebGPU.
Deep familiarity with video compression standards (H.264, HEVC, AV1), container formats (MP4, WebM), and FFmpeg architecture.
