Westpac is appointing a Lead Security Architect in Sydney to design API gateway security and Consumer Data Right (CDR) architectures.

Westpac Enterprise Security Architecture is recruiting a Lead Security Architect in Sydney to lead the security design for Open Banking and enterprise API gateways. You will architect mutual TLS, OAuth2/OIDC token governance, and data protection controls across banking platforms.

As a key member of the team at Westpac in Sydney, NSW, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Architect end-to-end: Architect end-to-end security frameworks for Consumer Data Right (CDR) APIs and partner integrations.
• Define standards: Define standards for API gateways, Web Application Firewalls (WAF), and tokenized authentication.
• Conduct structured: Conduct structured architectural threat models on microservices and core banking integrations.
• Engage with: Engage with regulators (ACCC, APRA) and represent Westpac on national Open Banking working groups.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Westpac, candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Degree in Computer Science or Certified Information Systems Architect.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 5+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 8+ years experience in enterprise security architecture within banking or fintech.
• Deep understanding of modern API security protocols (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, FAPI, mTLS).
• Outstanding stakeholder communication, architectural governance, and technical leadership.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$175,000 – AU$220,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• Remuneration $175,000 – $220,000 + annual short-term incentive + super.
