Key Responsibilities & Operational Scope

• Reporting to the Head of Engineering, your key responsibilities will be to direct a team of Engineering Managers and engineering leads.
• Experience in a similar leadership role, you will have a growth mindset and an impressive software engineering track record across a range of technologies.
• We're 100% in cloud and we expect our leaders to participate in design reviews and pull requests.
• Your work will cover all aspects of SRE, Observability, SLOs, Release Engineering, Resiliency and Capacity Management.
• Coordinate and execute applying AI to SRE realm where it makes sense.
• Through partnering with engineering teams within the firm, you will help your teams develop and drive the adoption of our best practices and tooling across the organisation.
• The role will require close engagement and collaboration with all the engineering community.
• Your teams will define what good looks like and build the machinery to measure it, covering evaluation harnesses, guardrails, tracing across agent steps and tool calls, and cost budgets.
• The second is using AI in the engineering work itself, with agents that triage incidents, diagnose from telemetry and open the pull request.
• Execute and drive drive continuous improvement of development practice, guide architectural direction, and hold a high bar for quality.
• Mentor your engineers and keep raising what the team is capable of.

Candidate Profile & Required Qualifications

• 5+ years experience leading and building high performing, autonomous engineering teams.
• 10+ years experience in software engineering and system design, hands-on with Java, Go or a comparable language, and with cloud deployments.
• Track record of shipping platforms, services or developer tooling that other engineering teams build on.
• Grasp of modern development practice, including CI/CD, automated testing and infrastructure as code.
• Experience across reliability: SLOs, observability, resilience and capacity.
• Experience building or operating AI or LLM-backed systems in production, or a clear record of going deep in a new technical domain fast.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders across all levels.
• Bias to action, ability to move an organisation.
• Experience delivering large engineering initiatives.
