Lead mobile fleet maintenance operations for ultra-class haul trucks, excavators, and ancillary fleets supporting Fortescue’s world-class mining operations.

Fortescue is seeking a dynamic Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) Maintenance Superintendent to lead workshop operations supporting our rail and port operations in Port Hedland. Operating on an attractive FIFO roster, you will direct a team of heavy-duty diesel fitters, auto electricians, and planners maintaining Caterpillar 793/797 haul trucks, Liebherr diggers, and battery-electric heavy vehicles.

As a key member of the team at Fortescue (FMG) in Port Hedland, WA, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Direct workshop: Direct workshop maintenance strategies to achieve maximum mobile equipment availability and fleet reliability.
• Manage major: Manage major component change-out (CCO) schedules including engines, transmissions, final drives, and wheel motors.
• Oversee maintenance: Oversee maintenance budgets, contractor performance, and inventory spare part stock levels.
• Enforce Fortescue’s: Enforce Fortescue’s critical safety standards, zero-harm culture, and workplace inspection regimes.
• Lead transition: Lead transition programs to maintain next-generation battery-electric haul trucks and zero-emission mobile machinery.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Fortescue (FMG), candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Mechanical Trade Certificate (Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic) or Mechanical Engineering Degree.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 6+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 6+ years in heavy mobile equipment maintenance within open-cut mining, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Australian Heavy Commercial Vehicle / Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic trade qualification or Mechanical Engineering degree.
• Deep technical familiarity with Caterpillar and Liebherr heavy mining machinery.
• Proven leadership capability in developing apprentices and fostering an inclusive, high-morale workshop culture.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$165,000 – AU$195,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
• High salary ($165,000 – $195,000) + superannuation + Fortescue incentive bonuses.
• Balanced 8:6 or 2:2 FIFO roster with company flights from Perth.
