Lead the engineering design and commercial deployment of multi-megawatt green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities at Fortescue.

Fortescue Energy is seeking an visionary Green Hydrogen Systems Lead Engineer to join our Energy Technology team in East Perth. You will lead technical delivery for commercial-scale electrolyzer systems (PEM and Alkaline), water demineralization plants, and hydrogen compression/storage infrastructure, driving Fortescue’s ambitious mission to achieve real zero emissions by 2030.

As a key member of the team at Fortescue (FMG) in Perth, WA, you will play a central role in driving excellence, upholding top-tier Australian industry standards, and contributing directly to the strategic milestones of one of the nation’s premier employers.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

In this critical role, your operational duties and key performance responsibilities will encompass:

• Lead conceptual: Lead conceptual design, FEED, and detailed engineering for multi-hundred-megawatt green hydrogen electrolyzer plants.
• Conduct thermodynamic: Conduct thermodynamic simulations and process mass/energy balances utilizing Aspen HYSYS.
• Oversee vendor: Oversee vendor selection and factory acceptance testing for high-capacity electrolyzers and balance-of-plant systems.
• Chair Hazard: Chair Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, LOPA safety reviews, and hazardous area classification assessments.
• Collaborate with: Collaborate with renewable energy teams to optimize electrolyzer dynamic operation against variable solar and wind profiles.

Required Qualifications, Licenses & Experience

To be successful in this position at Fortescue (FMG), candidates are expected to satisfy the following essential selection criteria:

• Mandatory Qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemical, Mechanical or Renewable Energy Engineering.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum 7+ Years of verified industry experience in Australia or recognized overseas equivalence.
• 7+ years of chemical or process engineering experience, with significant exposure to hydrogen, industrial gases, or petrochemicals.
• Demonstrated experience with high-pressure hydrogen handling, electrolyzer technologies, or cryogenic gas liquefaction.
• Track record leading HAZOPs and process safety engineering across major capital projects.
• Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering.

• Competitive Remuneration: AU$180,000 – AU$220,000 per year + standard Australian Superannuation (11.5%).
